Dear Resident Joint Action Continues to Tackle Anti-Social Behaviour and Crime in Ilfracombe
Police and local authority partners are continuing to take coordinated action to address anti-social behaviour (ASB) and crime across Ilfracombe.
Working closely together, Devon & Cornwall Police and North Devon Council are actively responding to community concerns and implementing a range of enforcement and preventative measures. These include increased patrols in identified hotspot areas, targeted operations against repeat offenders, and the use of appropriate powers and legislation where necessary.
All action being taken follows due legal process, ensuring that interventions are proportionate, evidence-based, and designed to deliver long-term improvements to community safety. This includes engaging with individuals involved in ASB, utilising warning notices, community protection measures, and—where appropriate—progressing enforcement through the courts. In addition to enforcement, partners are working proactively with local services, including youth support, housing, and community organisations, to address the root causes of anti-social behaviour and provide support to those who need it.
Police and council representatives recognise the significant role that the public plays in helping to identify and respond to issues within the community. Residents, businesses, and visitors are thanked for continuing to report incidents and share information, which is vital in building a clear intelligence picture and enabling effective action.
Members of the public are encouraged to keep reporting anti-social behaviour and criminal activity. Reports can be made to Devon & Cornwall Police via 101, online, or in emergencies by calling 999. Information can also be shared anonymously via Crimestoppers.
This ongoing partnership approach reflects a shared commitment to ensuring Ilfracombe remains a safe place to live, work, and visit. Further updates will be provided to the community as work progresses and we thank you for your patience.
Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police. The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 aims to put victims first, giving power to local people and enabling professionals to find the best solutions for their local area. The act provides the police, local authorities and other local agencies with flexible tools and powers that they can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour. These include: - civil injunctions.
- criminal behaviour orders.
- public spaces protection orders.
- community protection notices.
- dispersal powers.
- closure powers.
The act also includes measures such as the Community Remedy and antisocial behaviour case reviews which empower victims and communities to have a say in the outcome of their reports and hold agencies to account. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.devon-cornwall.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
